Date Night with GWIS-MKE– Join Us!

The Graduate Women in Science - Milwaukee Chapter (GWIS-MKE) invites you to a special date night on Tuesday, April 8th, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Blu, located on the 23rd floor of the Pfister Hotel (424 E Wisconsin Ave). Dress to impress, enjoy a drink, and participate in our annual raffle-style fundraiser! All proceeds will support GWIS-MKE efforts, including funding our annual Scientific Advancement Awards, which are competitive awards given to outstanding women scientists in Milwaukee.

This year, we are excited to welcome last year’s Scientific Advancement Award recipients, who will be in attendance to share insights about their research and the impact of the award. Don't miss this opportunity to engage with an inspiring scientist and learn more about their work!

Bring your friends, family, and colleagues—everyone is welcome!

Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the door and can be paid for with cash or online via our donation link. Please note: Raffle winners must be present to claim their prizes.

In addition, 100% of tips and 10% of food and drink proceeds will directly benefit GWIS-MKE's efforts to support women in science.

No RSVP is required.

Please feel free to contact the GWIS-MKE with any questions or concerns at milwaukee@gwis.org.

Past Events

Social Hour at Black Husky Brewing

We hosted a Social Hour event at Black Husky Brewing, which had a great turnout, with representatives from Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. A diverse group of women attended, from different disciplines, including data science, psychology, neuroscience, and biology. Some attendees had not attended a prior GWIS event and came to learn more about the organization.

Conversations at the event were focused on learning more about each other and our different graduate programs. Some newer graduate students asked for advice from students further along in their graduate career. There was good discussion about balancing coursework/research and life. Some attendees were also new to the Milwaukee area, so we discussed fun places to go, events to attend, and the culture of Milwaukee to provide a space for them to learn about the city.

Women Navigating a Career in Science (Panelist Event)

GWIS-MKE  has partnered with Faculties in the Milwaukee area to host a panelist event: Women Navigating a Career in Science. The event took place on Monday, November 4, from 5 to 6:30 pm at 707 Hub- Marquette University. All graduate students from the Milwaukee area were invited to attend the event. We had powerful conversations about the challenges women still face in science, including overcoming biases and breaking down stereotypes. It was inspiring to hear everyone’s stories, insights, and determination to create a more inclusive and supportive scientific community
